Jessa and Tim are full-time fun! The two met while students at Gettysburg College, and as they joke, their story started where all good things at Gettysburg do: at a frat party. It was Halloween night and Tim - who had donned a wrinkled striped shirt, declared himself a referee and was spending the evening throwing flags at any offense he deemed worthy of one - tried out a pickup line he thought would advance the play. I'll spare the complete details (because I quite like Tim) but it was something about him having to kiss Jessa (who he'd only just met) if she didn't stop flirting with him. I am sure there was no drinking involved. As Jessa tells it, "While his charm and drollery failed that Halloween, the cunning pickup line led us here."
Here refers to her hometown of Kennebunkport, where nearly seven years later and five years after they finally began dating following Jessa's move to Boston where Tim was living, the two Celebrated (capital C intentional!) their marriage during a day that was as joyous and sunny as they both are.
Many of their guests admitted that of all the weddings they'd been invited to, this was the one they were most looking forward to attending and Jessa and Tim easily exceeded expectations, delivering a classic coastal tented wedding in a field flanked by fall wildflowers, with many meaningful mementos of Maine from the jars of Stonewall Kitchen blueberry jam that served as place cards to coozies for cocktail hour labeled with lobsters (lobster also made a much-appreciated appearance in the oh-so-good Cape House Catering lobster mac'n'cheese) to custom clutches made with local sails by Sea Bags for the bridesmaids to table numbers matted on Maine maps. The festivities were held at the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust on Gravely Brook Road in Kennebunkport, my first time photographing a wedding there and I hope not my last as I'd highly recommended this relatively unknown but most perfect property for a tented wedding close enough to the beaches of the Kennebunks to catch a sea breeze, but rural and remote enough to enjoy the intimacy and privacy provided by the fields and forests.
During a cocktail hour that lasted nearly two hours, guests lounged on Adirondack chairs, challenged each other to lawn game staples like corn hole and ladder golf, and clinked glasses of sangria while resting up for one of the most riotously fantastic dance floors I've ever seen, complete with the "embarrassingly awesome white kid dance floor moves" Jessa and Tim promised me in their pre-wedding questionnaire. I couldn't have had more fun (is this really work?), and I suspect that's the sentiment of all in attendance, most notably Jessa and Tim, who were positively bursting with bliss.
Congratulations you two - you make a terrific pair (like lamb and tuna fish or spaghetti and meatballs if you're more comfortable with that analogy ;)
