Sam and Max met through mutual friends at a Fourth of July party. As the story goes, she pushed him over a fence and they never looked back. The two got to know each other through email correspondence as Max soon after embarked on a three month trip to Africa for work. As Sam tells it, communicating by words alone forced the couple to really learn about each other rather than just have fun with each other, which she assured me they did when he got home.

Residents of Portsmouth, New Hampshire (at least when Max wasn't out at sea), the couple chose the Flag Hill Winery in nearby Lee as their celebration spot. And I was lucky enough that they selected me as their photographer, signing a contract within days of getting engaged after Sam saw one of my signature albums at a family friend's Christmas party. (It made me feel especially good when Sam's mother told me on the wedding day that Sam, along with a few gin and tonics, had actually decided on me for her wedding day before Max had even proposed.) Knowing how much they valued me and my work, I was smitten with Sam & Max from the second they first inquired about my availability, well over a year before they said their "I do's." Of course, the bottle of Flag Hill wine they brought to our pre-wedding planning meeting only made my heart grow fonder!

The day started out in a downpour, so Sam and Max brought their own sunshine, with such bright smiles and warm hearts and the sun eventually decided to follow suit and just go along with it, holding back the rains and even letting loose a few rays for a most festive day full of family, friends and fun. Oh such fun.
