I was honored when an editor from DownEast Magazine contacted me with a request to include an image they'd seen on my blog from Sara and Dean's wedding at the Asticou Inn (which I adore!) in their upcoming edition of Maine Vows. But of course!
Billed as "the essential guide to getting married in Maine," Maine Vows is inserted into the January 2010 edition of DownEast (a must-read for any Mainer that always leaves me feeling so smitten with my state and all it has going for it right now). I had completely forgotten that I'd emailed them the image, so it was such a nice surprise to receive my advanced copy in the mail last week. This year's Maine Vows presents "three perfect places" to get married in Maine: by the sea, on the farm and at the lake. The image from Sara and Dean's ceremony on the lawn at the Asticou in Northeast Harbor is showcased in the section on the sea (see the spread above, my image is the big one bottom right). I had to laugh because the caption on the photograph suggests couples "...find a chi chi locale like Northeast Harbor" and while Sara and Dean's wedding was surely smart and stylish, the day -and the couple- couldn't have been more down-to-earth (in spirit and literally- it was a green wedding, after all). You can read about their eco-elegant wedding here on my blog and here on the Green Bride Guide. You can also watch their slideshow here, and learn more about their planning process from Sara's submission to my Bride's Side series last winter.
You can see a close-up of the page with my featured image below, but be sure to look for DownEast's Maine Vows on the newsstand soon. Inspiring images aside, it's worth purchasing solely for the scrumptious sample menus- one for each season and featuring many Maine ingredients. Springtime rhubarb martinis with Freeport's Cold River Vodka, anyone?
Congratulations, Sara and Dean! So well deserved, as are the other successes in your life since that sunny October day! And backpats to the other Maine photographers included in this issue. Such talent! Maine brides are so lucky!
